June 14, 2019 – Meeting (Self-Care Presentation)

Join us for the June CCYF Regular Meeting on June 14, 2019, at the RUW! We will be learning from Hallmark Youthcare about Self-Care.

We all know that stress can impact our lives every day, and that we should work to avoid stress as much as possible. But, what do you do when you have a job that requires you to be stressed? What happens when your role is inherently stressful? Self-Care in the Trauma- Informed Era is a highly interactive training that focuses on the specific types and impacts of job-related stress on Human Services Providers. This training teaches the impacts of stress on the brain, provider-specific burnout, and the role of organizational trauma. Participants learn how stress and observed trauma can impact thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Additionally, participants are able to work collectively to identify self-care techniques, shared coping strategies, and ways to use stress levels  in positive ways.  Each participant will walk away with a better awareness of stress-management and their very own Adult Self Care Bag!

March 22, 2019 – ACEs 201 Training

The CCYF is hosting ACEs 201 – Resilience Case Planning Training on March 22, 2019.

70% of adults in the U.S. – 223.4 million people – have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. Adverse Childhood Studies show that many of these traumas occur before age 18 and result in disrupted brain development, adoption of at risk health behaviors, and increase the risk for disease, disability, social problems, and physical and mental illness in children and adults. The Center for Disease Control recognizes that this epidemic requires a public health response at a national, state, and local level.

So what happens after we become aware of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how a broad range of adversities in life (including abuse, neglect, household challenges, community violence, lack of access to resources, and historical oppression) impact our individual and community health?

Dr. Allison Sampson-Jackson will review an educational tool that supports adults (including caregivers) and older youth in understanding the concepts of trauma, resilience and thriving and how they all impact their health and behavior.

This training is intended for professionals working with youth and families who have experienced trauma including: Juvenile Probation Officers, Student Resource Officers, Department of Social Service workers, Youth and Family Case Managers, and/or School Counselors. While some clinicians have found this training helpful, this workshop is not intended for clinical professionals or to replace specific trauma informed clinical training or treatment planning skills.
